Occupation times via Bessel Functions

چکیده
This study of occupation time densities for continuous-time Markov processes was inspired by the work of E.Nir et al (see [13]) in the field of Single Molecule FRET spectroscopy. There, a single molecule fluctuates between two or more states, and the experimental observable depends on the state’s occupation time distribution. To mathematically describe the observable there was a need to calculate a single state occupation time distribution. In this paper, we consider a Markov process with countably many states. In order to find a one-stete occupation time density, we use a combination of Fourier and Laplace transforms in the way that allows for inversion of the Fourier transform. We derive an explicit expression for an occupation time density in the case of a simple continuous time random walk on Z. Also we examine the spectral measures in Karlin-McGregor diagonalization in an attempt to represent occupation time densities via modified Bessel functions. This paper explores various interfaces between the class of generalized gamma convolution (GGC) random variables, Dirichlet process mean functionals and phenomena connected to the local time and occupation time of p-skew Bessel processes and bridges discussed in Barlow, Pitman and Yor (1989), Pitman and Yor (1992, 1997b). First, some general calculus for GGC and Dirichlet process means func-tio...

متن کاملRemarks on the density of the law of the occupation time for Bessel bridges and stable excursions
Smoothness and asymptotic behaviors are studied for the densities of the law of the occupation time on the positive line for Bessel bridges and the normalized excursion of strictly stable processes. The key role is played by these properties for functions defined by Riemann–Liouville fractional integrals.
متن کاملOccupation Times, Drawdowns, and Drawups for One-dimensional Regular Diffusions
The drawdown process of a one-dimensional regular diffusion process X is given by X reflected at its running maximum. The drawup process is given by X reflected at its running minimum. We calculate the probability that a drawdown precedes a drawup in an exponential time-horizon. We then study the law of the occupation times of the drawdown process and the drawup process. These results are appli...
